The world's largest half marathon returns for it's 26th year this October.
The BUPA Great North Run runs point-to-point from Spital Tongues in Newcastle city centre to
South Sheilds. The Great North Run covers the full half marathon distance of 13.1 miles
(21 kilometres). The event is broadcast live on the BBC from 9.30am and covers the race for
four hours.
Open to anyone aged over 17, the number of applications to run the race far exceeds the
number of places available and a ballot system has been introduced to determine who
participates. All successful finishers receive a limited edition t-shirt and medal at the
finish together with their well-deserved goody bag!
This year the Great North Run is on Sunday, 1st of October. Official start times
are: Elite Wheelchair Start: 10:10 Elite Womens Start: 10:15 Elite Mens and BUPA Great North Run Start: 10:40
